Does freezing a credit report at 1 credit bureau really help a consumer dispute credit at another bureau?

There is a lot of talk lately that placing a “security freeze” of the consumer credit file at specialty credit bureaus such as Lexis Nexis and Sage Stream will prohibit those companies from furnishing consumer information to any of the Big 3 credit bureaus.

Some people swear that this method helps them to “produce better dispute results.” As we know, the credit bureaus are highly unpredictable and inconsistent in how they behave and so does this “file freezing” have any merit under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)?

15 USC 1681c-1(i)(2) is where the mechanism to place a national security freeze is spelled out in the FCRA.

In this video we review what the FCRA has to say about freezing alternate credit reports as a credit dispute strategy so you can decide for yourself if you think it is a strategy worth implementing in your business model.
