There are many reasons to keep tabs on your credit history and doing so is even more important since the pandemic, which upset many families’ ability to keep up with bills and payments. Recent data breaches, such as T-Mobile, that could result in fraudulent accounts, and student loan deferrals that might have resulted in payments being incorrectly reported, add to the importance of checking one’s credit. Black and Hispanic communities are far more likely to have inaccurate information appearing in their credit files—errors that could result in lost job opportunities, denied credit applications and higher interest rates.
